Fonder?

Does absence makes the heart grow fonder? It depends.

For example, I've never longed for personal-type medical procedures (you women over 40 know what I mean, and everyone over 50 REALLY knows what I mean!), regardless of how long it has been since the last time. On the other hand, by the time Christmas rolls around, I can hardly contain my excitement about eggnog (what?), carols, and all the other trappings. I could live another lifetime without returning to Texas, yet I am practically heartsick for seeing the Pacific Northwest again.

But where the old saw is truly validated is in the life of a grandma. I haven't seen my sweet little granddaughter and her handsome brother in a week. (The Big Guy was sick over the weekend, so we wisely stayed away from them.)

I know that Roscoe has gotten smarter and cuter in just 7 days. And Wolverine will be so different from my last visit in the hospital, only one week ago, that I may not recognize her. I miss them terribly.

So I can say, without hesitation, that absence does, indeed, make the heart grow fonder, when the subject is grandkids.

Obligatory

Since I made a commitment to be a blogger, I'm posting, even though I'm too tired to think of anything profound. Or even mildly original. It was a busy day, with work, a visit to the vet, and a visit to my beautiful new granddaughter.

How can anyone doubt the existence of a loving God when holding a newborn? The miracle of birth is confirmation that He made us, He cares about us, and He is active in our lives. And that will never change, in time or eternity.

I guess that is pretty profound, after all.

I'm not The Pioneer Woman

I don't take good pictures, especially when I'm cooking. I don't live on a ranch (or anywhere else in the vicinity of manure). And my hubby would be mortified if I posted photos of him for all the world to see.

In spite of this, I decided awhile ago to start blogging, which is quite a stretch for someone who could never get past January 5 in a diary, and whose almost-30-year-old son has a nearly empty baby book. Of course, "deciding" never actually accomplishes anything. So one day around the first of June, I settled on today, June 21, 2010, the first day of summer and the longest day of the year. THIS would be the day I finally took the plunge. My second grandbaby was due today, and since babies are rarely born when we forecast, I figured I would have plenty of free time (and lots of daylight) today.

But at 9:47 a.m. I became grandma to a beautiful little girl. And she, along with her big brother, is who gives me the credentials to blog about Grandma Stuff. Even if I'm not The Pioneer Woman. Or even * A* Pioneer Woman.
